About a month ago I was at a church service, and my pastor made a statement that I had been pondering on for about 2 years. He said this simple phrase, “God is FOR you.”
Now if you are like me, you hear this and you go “Yeah, God is for me. Ultimately He wants me with Him forever and wants to see me make a difference.” We tend to think of this statement in such broad terms, but when my Pastor spoke about this he was referring to God being for you in terms of your calling and purpose – topics that were very specific.
So I went home and for a month I have been thinking on this statement, that God is for me. And of course, because He is so good, He just confirmed what I had been thinking on.
Last night I was attending our churches’ college service. The pastor speaking said, “I was trained that following God’s will for my life was going to cause me to surrender something and make a big sacrifice. Almost as if I was going to say, ‘Ok God…I surrender my life.’ And God was going to say, ‘Great, go to the African bush.’ but thats just not how God works. His will for your life is exactly the future you would pick if you had the choice.”
I am so thankful for a God who thinks of everything. I am so thankful for a God who gives us the desires of our hearts because He knows that in order for you to be truly successful at something – you are going to have to love it.
A few years ago I went on a missions trip. The place we stayed had no air conditioning, you couldn’t flush toilet paper (the smell), and there was no hot water. First world problems, but I hated it. When I got home my dad asked me what I learned, and I said “That God didn’t call me to the mission field.” Not everyone is called to the African bush and THATS OKAY. If we all went to Africa no one would be in America, and America needs you!
Here’s the deal. God is FOR you. In EVERY situation. Even the little things that you think don’t matter. When you are in conflict with someone, God is for you. When you are struggling financially, God is for you. When you are asking about relationships, God is for you. When you are feeling insecure, God is for you. When you are asking about the rest of your life and your purpose, GOD is for you! And if God is for you, who can be against you?
Friends, don’t get scared that God is going to ask you to do something you hate. He wants you to be successful and full of joy. He is going to stretch you, and its going to feel uncomfortable, but its a good stretch and you’ll like it.
He loves you more than you will ever begin to understand, and He has awesome things waiting for you. Run to Him, and let Him give you the desires of your heart. I promise its so much better than anything you could come up with.
